Frequently Asked Questions

What is the lifespan of a Maine Coon?

The average lifespan of a Maine Coon is between 9-15 years, although some can live into their late teens and early twenties with proper care.

What is the temperament of a Maine Coon?

Maine Coons are generally known for being affectionate, sociable, and intelligent. They are often described as having a "dog-like" personality, as they are loyal and enjoy spending time with their human family. They are also known to be playful and can be trained to fetch and perform tricks.

What are the grooming needs for a Maine Coon?

Despite their long fur, Maine Coons don't require as much grooming as you might expect. A weekly brushing to remove loose hair and prevent mats is typically sufficient. They naturally have a water-repellent coat that doesn't tend to get as tangled.

Are Maine Coons hypoallergenic?

No, Maine Coons are not hypoallergenic. In fact, due to their long fur, they may cause more allergic reactions than short-haired breeds for people who are sensitive to pet dander.

Do You Sell Breeding Cats?

While Singularity Cattery occasionally offers breeding cats to a select few individuals, the majority of the time, our cats are sold exclusively under contract as pets.

How big do Maine Coons get?

Maine Coons are one of the largest domesticated cat breeds. Males typically weigh between 13-25 pounds, but can occasionally reach over 25 pounds. Females are a bit smaller, usually ranging from 10-15 pounds. In terms of length, Maine Coons can reach up to 40 inches. In comparison, a regular cat typically weighs about 8 pounds. WHen will you have your next litter?

WHen Can I take my kitten home?

All kittens go home at 12 weeks of age. Why 12 instead of 8 weeks? Kittens learn a lot from their mother and littermates during the first 12 weeks of life. This period is essential for developing their social behavior. They learn to interact, play, and communicate with other cats, which is crucial in their development. Removing a kitten too early from this environment can result in behavioral problems later in life. Additionally, kittens are still building their immune systems during these first few weeks. The mother's milk provides antibodies that protect the kitten from various diseases. At around 12 weeks, most kittens have weaned off their mother's milk and their own immune systems are stronger. They're also old enough to have received their initial vaccinations, and other required vet care offering additional protection before heading off to their forever home with you.

IS there a deposit?

Yes. After the kittens are born I will send out an email to anyone on my waitlist notifying them of the available kittens. If you're interested in any of the kittens, you will need to place a 25% nonrefundable deposit to secure your pick. Please note that kittens cannot be reserved for more than 24 hours without a deposit. After this period, any unsecured kittens will be made available to the next person on the waiting list.

Are there adult cats AVAILABLE?

Should your preference lean towards owning an adult Maine Coon rather than a kitten, opportunities do arise. One of the advantages of obtaining an adult cat is the clarity it offers. You already have a good understanding of the cat's personality and behavioral traits, which can make it easier to anticipate how they will adapt to your home environment.

IS there A health GUARANTEE?

Absolutely! All kittens come with an industry-leading health guarantee. Singularity kittens come with a 5-year guarantee on any genetic-related issues and a 2-year guarantee on FIP. You will be able to look over any additional information inside your kitten contract once your deposit is made on your future fur baby.
